I had the absolute joy of photographing an incredible couple during their engagement session right in the heart of historic downtown Glendale, Arizona, and let me tell you... it was one for the books. Historic downtown Glendale is a hidden gem in the West Valley — a charming blend of Old Towne with its brick-trimmed sidewalks, glowing gaslights, and eclectic shops, and Catlin Court with its white picket fences, mature shade trees, and cozy bungalows turned boutiques. This pedestrian-friendly area spans about ten square blocks of timeless Arizona history, antique treasures, and small-town vibes that feel worlds away from the hustle of Phoenix. It's the perfect backdrop for intimate, romantic photos — especially when the sunset sky ignites in those golden tones.

We timed the session perfectly for golden hour, starting as the light softened and the sun dipped low, casting that dreamy, flattering glow over everything. The warm hues made their skin tones pop, created beautiful rim lighting, and added a romantic haze that no filter could ever replicate.

Our first stop was this stunning First United Methodist Church with its grand arched doorway and intricate stonework — the perfect dramatic entrance for their love story.

Here, they shared a tender moment, hands intertwined, leaning in close under the arched doorway. The sepia tones and soft light made it feel like a timeless classic.

Then we wandered out to the streets, where the fading sunlight painted the scene in rich amber and rose. With a delicate parasol adding a vintage touch, they stole a sweet kiss right in the middle of the road — pure romance against the quiet charm of downtown Glendale.

As the sun continued its descent, we moved to a wide-open parking area with sweeping views of the horizon. The empty expanse let the sky become the star, with dramatic backlighting and that signature golden rim around them as they held each other close.
